This growing community was formed in the 1970s and maintains very little contact with the outside world. Kiryas Joel no longer has to pay Monroe taxes, but it also does not receive services from Monroe. Along those lines, there are no public schools in Kiryas Joel-Palm Tree, but there are several religious schools from which to choose. When Palm Tree was created the community added sixty-two acres to the one hundred and sixty-four it previously annexed from Monroe, which was much needed as the village continues to grow in population.
